SUNSET ELECTRIC CONDOS

A collaboration with Sunset Electric and Claude Phaedrus. This was a newly built condo and apartment complex in the bustling Capitol Hill area of Seattle.

Working with the architects and carpenters, we drew up blue prints and concept designs for the mural’s installation. Instead of buying new wood, we recycled scrap wood that was used during the construction of the building. The building itself was built to feature a large indoor garden space between the two sides of the complex, the mural was also designed to reflect this by showing large mushrooms on the side and something magical in the middle (caribou). Additionally, the background is black with stars and constellations drawn in to represent how the building itself has no ceiling above the garden area. Flowers, mushrooms and butterflies were also incorporated to emphasize a value for nature, which is also a value that was of high importance when the building was designed. The newspaper is used from several different countries in order to represent how people from all over the world are welcome here. The entire process took roughly two months from the initial design to the projects completion.
